Cody Johnson, a single dad, wanted a better life for himself and his two-and-a-half-year-old son. So he jumped at the chance to enroll in the inaugural class of Hillsborough 社区 College’s Electrical Line Worker Training Program, sponsored by 坦帕电.

“It will definitely bring me and my son to a different level in life,” Cody said.

坦帕电 was thrilled to partner with the college to create the program, construct a training yard and provide instructors. The four-month curriculum gives qualifying students the chance to learn fundamental skills needed to become a line worker trainee in the electric utility industry. 坦帕电 initially pledged more than $300,000 for scholarships and program equipment.

The scholarships help folks like Cody pursue their dreams.

“If it wasn’t for TECO, and the paid tuition, I don’t think I’d be 在这里 right now,” Cody said.
